April 26, 2009 — Our Baby CAPS arrived in Waterloo for the OVA 14U Girls Ontario Championships – Division 2 strong and well-prepared for the matches that lay ahead.  Coaches Julie and Louis prepared them well for their first major tournament and the girls were focussed and up for the challenge.

The event began with a wonderful moment for our Haroula Giovanopoulos, as Coach Louis presented her with the 14U Girls’ OVA Award of Excellence for her leadership on the court during her inaugural club season.  Congratulations Haroula!

Friday’s action was exciting as the CAPS won all three of their matches in straight sets against Chatham Ballhawks, Brant Tornadoes and Cambridge Hawks.  The girls showed considerable improvements in skill and strategy since the fall and kept the pressure on their opponents for the entire length of those games.

On Saturday we faced off against Toronto West 13U who fought hard, but the CAPS prevailed 2-1.  The Barrie Elites also kept us moving and working hard for every point but, again, the Baby CAPS did us proud as they came away with another 2-1 win.  In their final match of the day, the CAPS met up with Toronto West 14U.  With our girls fighting every step of the way, T. West prevailed 23-25 in two nail-biting games.

Sudden Death Sunday saw the CAPS matched up against Stratford Stingers Gold in crossover action.  Our players showed incredible strength and persistence, not to mention spirit.  Despite our girls’ unrelenting efforts, Stratford won the match in three sets.

As a first year team, successfully completing their season in the Top 10 of some 30 Division 2 teams in Ontario, is a testament to the outstanding work done by both the coaches and players this year.  Many, many thanks go out to Coaches Julie and Louis for all of their hard work and patience this season.  Heartfelt congratulations go out to all of our players who showed tremendous class, skill and dedication, not only this weekend but all year long!  You should all truly be very proud of yourselves both for your performance on the court as well as for the image that you portrayed.
