March 19, 2009 — NCVC Director of Volleyball Programs Cathy O’Doherty has been named to the coaching staff of the girls indoor team for the 2009 Canada Summer Games, which will take place from August 15-29 at over 40 locations across Prince Edward Island. Volleyball will be played during Week 2 at Chi-Wan Young Sports Centre and at McLaughlin Arena at the University of Prince Edward Island in Charlottetown. Coach O’Doherty will be one of the coaches of Team Ontario’s 20U Girls indoor team. She joins CAPS 18U Head Coach Jeremy Hannay, who will help coach the 21U Boys team.
According to Coach O’Doherty, “How can you not be thrilled about the CAPS getting 1/3 of the coaching spots for Ontario’s Canada Games teams this year? Jeremy and I are really excited to get the opportunity to help take Ontario over the top in PEI.”
This appointment is yet another impressive addition to Cathy O’Doherty’s stellar coaching resumé. “On a personal note, I am thrilled to be returning to the Team Ontario program for this Canada Summer Games year. I would definitely consider this appointment to be the pinnacle of my coaching career. I’m looking forward to coaching some of the girls I had the pleasure of training in the summers of 2006 and 2007. It also provides an awesome opportunity for me to learn from some of the best coaches in the province: Arif Nathoo, Nick Tran, Shane Whyte, Jeff Chung, Jason Trepanier and, of course, Jeremy. This summer promises to be exciting, exhausting, educational, and – above all – fun! I can’t wait!”
