February 21, 2009 — We started off our day at the OVA 16U Girls Bugarski Cup Championship East playing against Georgetown Impact 15U. With a great start to the day, the first set seemed like an easy win. But we were confronted in the second set when our guard was down, and ended up having to play tough for the win.
Our second match was against Storm Cyclones, and we were overjoyed that we ran our first X! We had a lot of big hits and played well together as a team, allowing us to win and come first in our pool.
During the quarterfinal game, we played the Etobicoke TitansBlue and struggled a bit, but we quickly snapped back into gear and played as a team. Diming passes, perfect sets, and killer hits were all great factors to winning the match.
In the semi-finals we played Durham Attack Red, and it was a very fun match. With confidence and loud cheering from the whole team, we remembered number four on our list, which was having fun.
Playing together and as a team, we made it through the ups and downs of a tournament that was filled with tough playing, lots of energy and dinosaur jokes. Overall we played our best and made it to the gold medal match.
In the finals, we played against the Scarborough Titans. It was an extremely intense game, but we played hard. We won the first set and were very happy. But instantly we lost our momentum going into the second set and started off roughly. We lost and moved on to a third set, where we unfortunately ran out of gas and lost, taking home a silver medal.
Overall – a fun and well-played tournament. We ended up staying over that night because of the snowfall and bonded quite a bit. Eating out, sleeping over and waking up early are all part of the whole team experience and we couldn’t have had more fun. Thanks to all the parents who drove us and cheered us on and thanks to Coach Linden for all his support and expertise.
