16U Girls play up to 18U McGregor Cup in Kingston (PHOTOS)

January 17, 2009 — The day began bright and early with a 9 o’clock start for the 16U girls as we headed out to play up to our first 18U tournament of the year, the OVA 18U Girls McGregor Cup – Trillium B Division.

Throughout the day we had our ups and downs.  We seemed to begin our matches with a dominating force that was unbeatable.  However, our biggest problem was finishing.  Our strongest match was against the Ottawa Kangaroos 18U.  We were executing our plays correctly and played at our level, winning both sets.

Unfortunately we lost our chance to receive a medal when we faced Storm Thunder 17U.  It was a strange match – there was just no momentum on our side of the court.  After that game we regrouped and focused in for our last match of the day.  Linden always says to finish the day strong and that’s what we did.  We managed to dig ourselves into a little hole and ended up into a third set, but we fought hard, stayed on our toes and, in the end, we were the first to 15 points!

Overall it was not the 16U girls’ best tournament, but it was a great experience.  The next tournament we will just have to show that we kept our heads high and learned from our mistakes.

Last but not least, thank you Linden and the parents for taking the time to be there and support us!  Great job guys and let’s get pumped for the next tournament!
