January 10, 2009 — It was a late start for the 16U CAPS as we made our way to Pembroke for a 9:30 a.m. start at the OVA 16U Girls McGregor Cup Championship East.
Our first match was against Maverick Ambush 15U. We came out strong in the first set and won, but lost steam, losing the next two sets. We then played Durham Attack Red. We took them in three sets, leaving us second in our pool. We had made a few minor communication errors but were quickly starting to work as a team. We played an awesome match against Knights VC, resulting in victory and sending us to the quarterfinals, where we played some fantastic volleyball and beat the Storm.
Next we played the match that determined if we would get to move up to Premier Division. Storm Lighting took the first set from us, but in the second set we played as a team, executed our plays well, and won the game. The third set was a nail-biter... there were lots of ups and downs but, in the end, Storm Lighting beat us 15-13. The game was exciting and we all learned alot from it. So we aren’t going to be moving up a tier just yet but we still had a chance at a medal!
Our final match of the day was against Durham Attack Black. We gave Durham a quick lead in the first set but quickly caught up, then pulled away to win the set. Our momentum carried over to the next set which we won to take our second medal of the season!
All in all, the day was filled with emotional highs and lows, but we still came out with a medal. Way to go girls! Thanks to Coaches Linden and Devon and to all the parents for their time commitment.
