November 22, 2008 — Four National Capitals alumni crossed paths at the 2008 America East Conference Championship on November 21-22 in Albany, NY.

Cate Eckhardt (06) and Kalyn Mostert (08) helped lead Albany Great Danes to its third successive conference championship, defeating the Binghamton Bearcats, 3-0, by set scores of 25-13, 25-19, and 25-18.  Albany now moves on to the NCAA Championship tournament.

In the semi-finals, Albany faced tough opposition from the Maine Black Bears, pulling out a 3-1 win by scores of 20-25, 25-20, 28-26, 25-20.  Eckhardt led Albany with 15 kills and dug up 10 balls for a double-double.  Jessica Wolfenden (05) ran the University of Maine offense, chalking up 44 assists, while contributing 14 digs.

The second-seed Binghamton Bearcats had advanced to the final with a 3-2 win in the other semi-final over third-seed University of Maryland at Baltimore, new home for freshman Sarah Joy (08). The two teams traded momentum the entire match before Binghamton secured the 3-2 win by set scores of 25-15, 17-25, 25-18, 14-25 and 15-10.

At the Championship banquet, Kalyn Mostert was named to the All-Conference Rookie Team.
