November 8, 2008 -- For some of us, the day started at 4am to be on the road at 5am to arrive in Sherbrooke, Quebec at 8am for our first tournament of the year, the Volleyball Quebec Omnium du Quebec 16 ans et moins.

Our first pool play match was against the Lynx de la Rive-Sud. We struggled a little at the start, and then with 10 points in a row, we won the first set 25-22. The 2nd set started with alot of missed serves, and then became neck-and-neck. We went on to win 25-23 despite the game point being called back on a terrific block/tip that was called "over the net".

Our second pool play match was against Impact de Durocher. The first set was close all the way, and with a fight to the finish we won 26-24. The second set came more easily, winning 25-19.

Our third pool play match was against Dragons Academie Lafontaine. This match was to determine which team was first in our pool and which team was second. The Dragons dug up everything we hit at them, taking the first set 19-25. In the 2nd set everything came together for us, and with 8 serves in a row we won 25-20, landing us first in our pool. Way to go girls!!!!

Now to the elimination round! There was a bit of pressure here, because if you lose you go home. There was no consolation round. First up was the Samurai, another first place team from another pool. We dominated the first set with a serving streak, winning 25-16. The second set was a real nail-biter, which we won 25-23.

The semi-final match was against Dragons CSA. In the first set, we came out looking very much in control, winning 25-19. The second set looked very impressive as well, until 8-8, then the game turned and we lost 19-25. The third set was a great one, with the CAPS winning 15-11.

Our first FINAL of the year, against Libellules de Joliette. This match was going to be a classic. You could feel the intensity in the air. The digs, the blocks, the teamwork, the dives, the extremely long rallies - it had it all, ending with an impressive 25-19, 25-18 win. As spectators, all we could say was WOW!!!!! That was amazing!!!!! Super job girls!! Coach Leung commented, "Great team effort was displayed by all. We have our sights set on great things ahead, and this was a terrific start".

We would like to thank Coach Linden, and Cathy O'Doherty, for assistant coaching this weekend.
