Bob O'Doherty President
Bob O'Doherty has been heavily involved in sports for over forty years as an athlete, coach and administrator. A Canadian champion in the sports of tennis and football, he has an extensive athletic background, which includes competing internationally in three sports and playing football with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers of the Canadian Football League. He has also coached at the provincial and national competitive levels.
As an administrator, he has a proven track record in a wide variety of senior management positions within the Canadian sport system over the past twenty years. He is a graduate of Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario, holding both Masters of Business Administration and Honours Bachelor of Commerce degrees. In 1978, while at Queen's, he was awarded the Tom Pate Award by the Canadian Football League for excellence in university football, scholarship and citizenship.
Bob has been and remains very active in the local sports community, working to promote Ottawa and Canada's Capital Region through sport primarily by attracting, hosting and supporting amateur and professional sporting events and related activities. He has served on the Organizing Committees of the 1999 Brazil-Canada / 2000 Italy-Canada World League Volleyball competitions and the 1999 Memorial Cup, the Canadian Special Olympics 2000 Winter Games, as the President of the Ottawa-Carleton 2001 Canada Games Bid Committee, and General Manager of the Ottawa 2014 Commonwealth Games Bid Committee. Bob also recently helped lead the successful Ottawa bids to host the 2006 Ontario Summer Games, 2009 World Junior Hockey Championships and the 2008-2010 CIS Men's Basketball Championships.
Bob is currently a sport and event management consultant, as well as an instructor in the Sport Business Management Program at Algonquin College. Bob's wife Cathy is the Director of Volleyball Programs for the National Capitals Volleyball Club, while oldest daughter Meghan plays volleyball for the York University Lions and youngest daughter Erin plays for the 18 & Under CAPS.
Dan Wolfenden Vice President
Dan has two daughters currently playing with the NCVC, Haley and Kelsey, and one who has graduated from the CAPS as one of the 'Original Six'. Jessica Wolfenden currently plays at the University of Maine.
Dan brings over 23 years of sport management experience, his profession, to the NCVC. He currently serves as Executive Director with Water Ski and Wakeboard Canada, the national association for that sport. For six years Dan was the Director of Skate Canada's National Figure Skating Team, and served in a number of leadership and programming capacities with other sport groups. Dan holds a Master's degree in sport management and acts as a Director of the Canadian Olympic Committee.
Dan was a competitive volleyball player, playing up to the college level, continuing to play into his adult life. He has been a grass roots level coach for nine years in a variety of different sports, possessing NCCP coaching certification in several, including up to Level 3.
Philip J. Mostert CA Director, Finance
Philip is a Chartered Accountant with KPMG Ottawa, Advisory Services Practice. Philip works with organizations in the areas of management and control frameworks, costing and financial modeling, risk assessment, internal auditing, and governance.
Philip and Karen have thoroughly enjoyed watching there three children (Benne, Kalyn and John) develop and grow through the sports they have participated in over the past 19 years (hockey, basketball, soccer, alpine skiing, snowboarding, waterskiing and volleyball). Volleyball and snowboarding are the current focus of their children.
Paul Edwards Director, Marketing & Communications
Paul and his wife Eva are the proud parents of 6 children, 2 of whom have been lucky enough to be National Capitals. Tess is training for her first of three seasons of eligibility with the University of Ottawa Gee-Gees and Laura will begin her 7th and final season of club ball at 18U this coming September.
Paul has been self-employed in the fields of marketing and graphic design for close to 25 years. Specializing in corporate image design, he is responsible for the design of the symbol/logotype for Hockey Canada, Water Ski and Wakeboard Canada, and The Ottawa Wine & Food Show, among others. His clients include The Ottawa Senators Hockey Club, COMPAS Inc., Canadian Comprehensive Auditing Foundation, Water Ski and Wakeboard Canada and the Aboriginal Financial Officers Association of Canada.
His passion for the game of volleyball was rekindled by his children. 7 year-old Holly hopes to become a National Capital sometime in the fall of the year 2012...

Mary Clare Carter Director, Special Events
Mary Clare is living the exciting sport of volleyball vicariously through her two youngest daughters playing with the CAPS - Lauren, currently playing on the 18U team, and Andrea on the 16U team. She has been involved with volleyball team management since Lauren started competitive play at age 11.
Her position on the NCVC Board stems from her commitment to ensuring that young athletes in Ottawa have the option to develop and play volleyball with a Club that can compete with the best in Ontario and beyond. She strongly believes in giving back to a club which has played an integral role in the growth of her daughters personally and in their growth as young ambassadors of our National Capital and in the sport of volleyball both on and off the court.
Mary Clare is an interior designer and manages her own business, "Every Square Inch". She is inspired by a myriad of outdoor sports and by athletes who strive to reach their personal goals. Spending time with family and close friends is of the utmost importance to her.
Cathy O'Doherty Director, Volleyball Programs
Cathy has been involved in competitive sport for over 30 years. She competed in volleyball at Queen's University where
she was named to the Junior National "B" team. In her graduating year, Cathy was given the Phys. Ed. '55 Alumnae Award for top athletic and academic achievements. After graduating
from Queen's with Phys. Ed., Math and Education degrees, she moved to Winnipeg and won a Senior National Championship with Prairie Blue Volleyball Club. Cathy also became an
accomplished tennis player, winning several provincial championships in Manitoba.
Cathy has taught high school for 25 years. In that time, she has coached volleyball, tennis, track and field, badminton, basketball and touch football. Cathy has coached several
high school teams to NCSSAA championships and consequently participated in a number of OFSSAA championships. She has also been involved in community sports, coaching soccer when
her daughters were young. When Meghan and Erin reached the age to play competitve volleyball, Cathy volunteered to coach at the club level. She obtained her Level 1 NCCP coaching
qualifications and in 2003, her team won the Midget girls Provincial and Eastern Canadian Championships. In 2004, Cathy coached the 15U and 18U girls teams. The 15U girls won the
Provincial and Eastern Canadian Championships. The 18U team won a provincial silver medal, as well as a bronze medal at the Martin Luther King Classic in Philadelphia. In March
2003, Cathy received the Mike Bugarski Award given by the OVA to the Female Coach of the Year.
Cathy played volleyball in the OCVL from 1990-2003, until an injury stopped her from participating. Cathy continues to coach at the high school level and volunteers her time to
coach at Olympia Sports Camp in Huntsville, Ontario.
