February 24, 2008 - We had a strong weekend in Kitchener at the OVA 18U Girls Bugarski Cup/Tier 2, that ended up in a bronze medal finish.

Our day started at 10 with our first game against the Northumberland Breakers.  We started out slow, but picked it up and came back to win the first set 25-17.  The second set was a little closer, but we ended up winning 25-22, with some help from Robbie's monster blocks.

Our second game was against Interclub.  This was our tightest game all day.  We won the first set 25-23, but lost the second by the same score.  The third set was a good effort, but we didn't manage to get the win and ended up losing 13-15.

After some confusion, Brittany WAS right - we ended up finishing first in our pool because we had lost the fewest sets of the three 1-1 teams.  This meant we had lots of down time between games to eat Jorie's Grandma's delicious cookies and to put together "great workouts", practising very useful volleyball skills such as bouncing a ball with your wrong hand, or catching it with your feet!

In the quarterfinals we took on Georgetown Impact Black 17U.  We won the first set 25-21 and the second set 26-24, with Brittany serving 5 or 6 in a row!

The semi-finals against Durham Attack Red.  It was an intense game that we unfortunately lost in two (25-21, 25-20), although there were highlights, like Laura serving 4 in a row.

So we were now playing for bronze and, after getting a set off, we were ready to play.  We were up against MAC and, with some great playing from everyone and some interesting cheering from the sidelines, we won the first set 25-16.  The second set was slightly closer, 25-18 but it finished with a satisfying end when Marijke served an ace to end the game and win the bronze medal.

All round it was a good day for the team and a great effort from everyone that really paid off.
Great job ladies!
