February 17, 2008 - Congratulations are in order for current 18U CAP Gabrielle Vallee-Vachon and CAPS Alumni Sarah Fetterly (Queen's University), Stephanie McGuinty (University of Ottawa) and Erin O'Doherty (University of Toronto) for being nominated by the OVA to receive Quest for Gold OAAP funding for 2007-2008.

The Quest for Gold - Ontario Athlete Assistance Program 2007/2008 (OAAP) is funded by the Provincial Government of Ontario through the Ministry of Health Promotion.  The Program provides direct financial assistance to Ontario athletes through an "Ontario Card" designation.  The intent of the OAAP is to provide funding to individual athletes based on their demonstrated commitment to high performance sport, allowing them to pursue athletic excellence at the highest levels of national and international competition.  All four CAPS players were members of Team Ontario in 2007, with Stephanie McGuinty also representing Ontario in 2006.

The OVA is allowed 12 nominations for indoor volleyball, so it is quite an honour that players from the National Capitals Volleyball Club organization received four of these awards.  CAPS Head Coach and Team Ontario Provincial Coach, Cathy O'Doherty commented, "I am thrilled that Gabby, Sarah, Steph and Erin will be receiving a substantial amount of funding to assist in their training and for their educational needs.  It takes a huge financial and time commitment by all involved - coaches, parents and players - to excel at this elite level.  It is wonderful that the Ontario government recognizes this effort and has created Quest for Gold to aid amateur athletes as they strive to represent Ontario and hopefully Canada in the future.  Congratulations girls!"
