January 26, 2008 - OVA 15U Girls Challenge Cup - Tier 3.  This was our farthest away tournament so far - in Cambridge, Ontario, and our first billeting experience.  Half the girls went to Waterloo to stay at Carolyn Bean's house (Andrea's aunt) and the other half went to Brantford to stay at Cathy Hendrie's house (Bobbie's aunt).  We cannot thank our billets enough for their hospitality.

The girls' first pool play match was against Pembroke Knights Black.  We came out strong and took the lead in all three sets, winning the match 25-16, 22-25 and 15-8.  Our second pool match was against the Ottawa Roos - again we took the lead and never looked back winning 25-17 and 25-18.  This put us 1st in our pool.

On to the all-important cross-over match, against Burlington Blaze.  This proved to be the most exciting match of the day, some of us still don't have our voices back.  We won the first set 25-17, took a commanding lead in the second set, lost focus, and let them back in, losing 32-34.  On to the third set - this game was neck-and-neck all the way.  We won, 15-12.

On to the semis against a big, strong, Windsor Riverside team. They proved to be too much for us, taking us in straight sets, 14-25 and 22-25.

The bronze medal match was against the Maverick Ambush team. The CAPS could not get anything going in the first set, losing 6-25.  In the second set, we had the lead all the way, but lost a nail-biter (27-29), putting us in 4th place.  Good effort girls!

Thank you to Cathy and Devon for all their encouragement, and to the parents who made the long drive to Cambridge, AND to our billets, Cathy Hendrie and Carolyn Bean.
