January 27, 2008 - The 16U CAPS
took a break from studying for exams this past weekend to participate
in a friendly scrimmage with three other teams at the CECEP de
L'Outaouais in Gatineau, Quebec. Participating in the scrimmage
were the 15U Griffons, the host 16U Griffons and the Maverick
Outlaws.
The CAPS started the morning strong with
straight set wins (25-18, 25-17) against the 16U Griffons.
Next up were the 15U Griffons who were getting ready for a big
tournament next weekend. The 15Us showed their stuff early,
leading the CAPS late in the first set. However, our girls
rallied and went on the take the first set 25-23 and then the second,
25-16.
This set up the final match of "pool
play" against the cross town rival Maverick Outlaws, who also
won their first two matches in straight sets. Since the teams
would end pool play ranked first and second, the final match of the
scrimmage was determined to be a best of five competition. And
as has been the case in every meeting between these two teams this
season, each game was close. The CAPS took the first set 25-19,
followed by two Outlaw wins (20-25, 17-25). The CAPS then
rallied for a fourth set 25-19 win leading to a 5th and determining
set, in which the Outlaws triumphed 15-10. The CAPS and Outlaws
will next meet at the OVA 17U Girls Bugarski Cup Zone
tournament in February with a Tier 2 placement for the 17U Provincial
Championships on the line.
As always, thanks to coaches Linden and
Bruno for their time and effort. Next stop is Whitby, Ontario
for the OVA 16U Girls Bugarski Cup - Tier 1 on February
9th.
Go CAPS!!!!!!
