December 19, 2007 - Well, it certainly wasn't the way we had hoped to start the 4th Annual Alumni GameNight, but a greasy snowstorm forced a half-hour delay to the festivities, as 13 of our 20 Alumni, current CAPS, coaches, parents and fans dragged themselves in to enjoy an evening of entertaining volleyball action with CareerCAPS and their younger 'sisters'.

The evening began with an hour or so of our Alumni discussing their university adventures in a Q&A session and then warming up with the 14U and 15U CAPS.  After a rousing session of Queen of the Court, the gym was reorganized to a single court setup so that we could watch the 2005s (with a 2006 and 2007 thrown in the mix) take on the 2006s and 2007s in a match and a half of fast-paced university-level action.  A functioning sound system would likely have been the icing on the cake, but Luke Luecke was forced to keep his colour commentary to himself, as the Pius electronics seemed to have a (very loud) mind of their own!

After the Alumni games (and a rock-paper-scissors battle to see who would win our door prizes), the gym was put back to a 2-court setup and the 50-or-so players still in attendance settled into some great matches against our CareerCAPS.  All the girls seemed to have had a great time, and those watching the matches were treated to a great show.  The evening was topped off with "Pizza & Pop for a Buck" - 18 pizzas, to be exact!

Thanks go out to Mary-Clare and Geoff Carter for organizing the event, to Cathy O'Doherty for managing all those players, to Brian Morphy for doing such a professional job of refereeing the games, and to Luke Luecke for acting as our MC and scorekeeper.  Thanks as well to everyone who came out in such nasty weather to show our Alumni how big a part of the CAPS family they remain.
