December 17, 2007 - On a
night when the rest of the city was shoveling out from the worst
snowfall in decades, the parents of the 15U girls put down their
shovels and headed for the gym at St. Joe's to take on the girls in
a 'friendly' game. With a distinct height advantage
and the wisdom of years, the parents were feeling pretty confident.
That lasted for only a couple of minutes as the girls mastered a
quick lead on the basis of some solid serving. When the parents
finally got their chance to serve, they evened up the score and kept
the first game close... until the girls pulled out the win in the end.
The next game was another close one. Some sneaky playing
on the part of the parents ("Look! Your shoe is untied.") helped
them to a win. The first tie-breaker was another close
one, with the girls managing to work through the giggles to win again.
Not willing to let it go at that (and with everyone having so
much fun), another game was played. The parents took this
one by two points again. With the parents declaring victory
(they won the last game after all), everyone headed over to Kelsey's
for food and gifts. Much fun was had by all. Thanks girls
for letting the parents win a few! Best of the season to all and
see you in the new year.
