December 1, 2007 - After a long drive up to the OVA 17U Girls McGregor Cup - Zone C in Trenton Friday night because of the weather conditions, we were finally ready to play Saturday morning.  Our first game was to start at 10:00 A.M. against the Scarborough Falcons, but because of scheduling the match started 45 minutes late and we were ready for our first game of the day with an extended warm up.  The match took 3 sets but we came out strong in the end and beat them with a big 2-1 win, 15-8.

For our second game we rushed into our cars and drove down to the CFB gym about a kilometer away where the Durham Attack Red team was waiting for us.  Back on the court, we lost a close first set 23-25, came back with a 25-18 win, but unfortunately lost the third, 14-16.

Back to the other gym with time for a 20 minute lunch, and then we were back on the court again against the Maverick Outlaws.  The CAPS and the Mavericks have met several times this year and all games have been very close.  This one was no different - after we lost the first set 24-26, the Mavericks kept their momentum and won the second, 25-18.

In the last game of pool play against Ganaraska Wolves, we came out strong, split sets, went to another third, where we prevailed 15-7.

It was time for playoffs in Trenton!  Starting so late (6:00 P.M.), with time to eat supper between the pool play and the playoffs, we started our first playoff game at 7:00 P.M. against Les Astros de Marc Garneau.  We were fired up and ready go and took this match 2-0.  After an hour wait we were ready for another match against the Mavericks.  The intensity was up with a chance to move up to 17U Tier 2 on the line!  The CAPS played hard but, in the end, the Mavericks came out with a 2-0 win.

With a final 2-0 win against the Ottawa Kangaroos, we were on our way home by 11:45 P.M with a bronze medal.  What a long day!  Good job girls for staying strong, at the end of a very long day, passing up, setting well and hitting hard!

We fell short of our Tier 2 goal but we'll work hard and come back ready to go for the next tournament.    613 - NC!!
