November 24, 2007 - If
anyone was to ask me, "Who is the most volleyball-crazy person you
know?", my first inclination might be to answer my eldest daughter,
but that's likely not true. Our very own Matt Harris,
Head Coach of the 18U Girls, has proven over and over again that there
is NOTHING he will not do to stay involved and productive in the
Ottawa volleyball community. On top of coaching our top girls
team, Matt can be seen in the gym helping out with any team that
happens to take him aside to fire away with a few down balls or to add
his lefty swagger to an impromptu scrimmage. But his biggest
sideline (if I may call it that) over these many years in the sport of
club volleyball has been his dedication to coaching the volleyball
teams of his high school alma mater, Glebe Collegiate
Institute.
That dedication paid off over this past weekend in Mississauga as
his Glebe CI Senior Boys captured the crown jewel of Ontario
High School volleyball, the OFSAA Boys "AAAA" Volleyball
Championship. Glebe finished the tournament with a near
unblemished record, posting 7-0 (match) and 15-1 (set) records.
For the season, Glebe made a mess of the opposition, posting overall
51-0 (match) and (116-5) set records! In the final, Glebe beat
the Mississauga SS Lions to secure the gold.
It might be easy to get lost in the notion that the world
revolves around Girls OVA volleyball around these parts but that is,
indeed, not the case. Congratulations Matt on a championship
well-won and richly deserved. No question that the CAPS - and
Glebe CI - are very lucky to have you.
