November 17, 2007 - This
years OVA 16U Girls Provincial Cup - Zone F was a regional
seeding tournament and there were no playoffs leading to medals, but
this did not detour the 16U CAPS from remaining undefeated for the day
and winning their own form of "Gold".
Pool play for the 16U Girls featured wins over Maverick Trail
Blazers (2-0), Peterborough Thunder (2-0), Ottawa
Kangaroos 15U (2-0) and the Ottawa Kangaroos 16U (2-1).
This resulted in the CAPS ranking first in the "B" pool,
which set them on a direct course for the Ottawa Maverick
Outlaws, who came first in the "A" pool. It was
obvious from the warm-up that both teams were determined to win and
the game turned out to be close right to the final point.
The CAPS seemed to have difficulty due to a lack of focus at the
start and the first set was taken by the Mavericks (19-25) with some
good hitting and blocking. It was in the second set when the
CAPS' focus returned and they set the tempo, making the Outlaws play
the CAPS' game. The girls' communication on the court also
contributed to a big second set win (25-13). Anything can happen
in a third set and the CAPS were down by a score of 1-5 in short
order, but the CAPS turned it around and led 8-7 at the turn,
finishing with an excellent 16-14 win. The Mavericks should be
congratulated on a great game, as it could have gone either way!
Well done CAPS!
Thanks to Coaches Linden and Bruno, to all the 16U parents and
fans, and to the 17U CAPS parents and players who did such a great job
running the tournament and canteen.
Great job girls!
