November 11, 2007 - Tournament #2, Longueuil, Montreal, the Volleyball Québec Omnium du Québec 17 ans.  It was early and it was quiet.  We came in streams, but the moment we - individually - stepped out of the cars, our steps became unified as we headed into the huge school, our senses heightened.  Eagerness, ferocity and nervousness were all emotions that we experienced sitting together before the day commenced.  Matt called the team together, we went over the game plan; execution, execution, execution.  The warm-up started and what was sure to be a high-intensity day began.

We won our first match.  Then we had to drive to another gym, where we "slid" our way to finish 2nd in pool play.

After almost four games in a row, the CAPS got to take a well-deserved lunch break which included lots of food, cheering on the 18Us, and listening to Jorie's iPod.  We were finally ready for playoffs!  It was obvious that we wanted to bring home some "solid" hardware and, with some killer hits, spectacular passing and sets, and a never-give-up defensive attitude, the girls earned a chance to compete for the gold medal.

The final match was a close one as the CAPS took an early lead but were unable to hold off the Volitives noir de Le Gardeur.  Tired but pleased with ourselves, we were very proud to bring home a silver medal.

Congratulations on a job well done ladies.  This tournament wouldn't have been so successful if it weren't for Leah's crazy neon laser-beam hits, Robyn's huge block, Marijke's great sets, Laura's leadership and presence at power, Kaleigh's sick spin serves, Brittany's spirit and clever tactics, Kathleen's hits that cut right across the net, Max's crazy digging, Lauren's dimes, Jorie's solid passes and powerful hits and Steph's killer quicks in the middle.  I really think that we made some huge progress as a team during this tournament and I can't wait to play with all of you again at our next event as we tackle our first Tier 1 competition!

- Rebecca #2

Editor's Note:  Medals are one thing, but sportsmanship is something about which we can all be particularly proud.  Girls, your display of "High-5" congratulations to every member of Volitives after such a hard-fought loss did us all very proud.  Go 17U CAPS!
