'A' team flirts with the final in Waterloo (PHOTOS)

July 19, 2007 - It was a demanding period of training and travelling, but I doubt any of the 12 girls from the Region 6/A team have any regrets about their experiences during their 3 weeks with Regional team this summer - except perhaps how close they were to getting over the hump in their semi-final against Region 4 on Friday!  That match was just one of many highlight performances by the 'A' team as they did their best to reach the final of the 10-team tournament.  The level of play demonstrated during the final day of the OVA's Regional Team Training Centre was really exceptional, with many of the matches going to extremely exciting 3rd set tie-breakers.  All the 8 CAPS girls, plus their teammates from the Ottawa Mavericks, Kingston Pegasus and Ottawa Kangaroos, should feel very proud of how they, and their teammates on the 'B' team, represented the region in Waterloo.  Congratulations 'A' team on your hard-fought 4th place finish!

Thanks go out to Chris Miedema, for all his hard work in securing gym space for both teams, and for volunteering many hours to help coach the team during Coach Harris' busy work schedule.  Thanks to Maren Hansen for her work coordinating arrangements for both teams.  A "get well soon" goes out to Robyn Croteau, who came out at the dizzy end of a collision with the R6B's Lindsay Ballance.

Finally, a very special "Thank You" must be extended to Assistant Coach Linden Leung for stepping up and doing an amazing job with the girls during this challenging period in his life.  Cheers Linden.
