March 24, 2007 -  Our last regular season tournament of this 2006-2007 season, the OVA 18U Girls Open/Tier 1, had many families headed to St. Catharines, Ontario to compete at beautiful Brock University.  The weekend would be a busy one, with competition and prospective head coach meetings at Western, York, U of T and Brock.

The CAPS were placed 6th coming into the tournament, which paired us with Waterloo Tigers Black and DRVC 17U for round robin play.  DRVC 17U went down to defeat by scores of 25-21, 20-25, 15-8.  Waterloo Tigers Black would be a hard-fought match and, ultimately, a loss for the CAPS by scores of 22-25, 25-22, and 12-15, resulting in a second place pool finish.

With a short 30 minute break for lunch, the CAPS would commence their quest to make the Top 4 for playoffs against the  Toronto Vipers with a sound 25-13, 25-22 win.  However, a disappointing 23-25, 25-14, 12-15 loss against Aurora Storm eliminated us from top four competitions.

Peel Selects would need to be defeated in order for the CAPS battle for the right to head to Provincials seeded fifth.  This match was well played by both teams and the CAPS were victorious: 21-25, 25-22, 15-13!  The final match of the day paired the CAPS with London's Forest City and they were determined to win and finish fifth.  The final outcome: 25-11, 25-20.

Despite the disappointing match with Aurora Storm, Coach Cathy O'Doherty kept the girls' spirits up by stating, "I like the fifth spot going into Provincials, it is not a terrible position.  I have big plans for the girls for the next four weeks until Provincials.  We'll work on the areas that will make us successful on April 21st."

As usual, the girls were happy to be together for the long ride home Saturday night.  The camaraderie and togetherness of these lovely young women has been a real privilege to behold this year through the long road trips, bunking side-by-side at our wonderful family billets, and sharing accommodation in the hotels.  Thank you again to our wonderful extended families and friends for accommodating us all in Hamilton, Oakville, and Fort Erie. The visits are short but very meaningful.

As this is the last 'road trip' editorial as your manager, I wanted to share some of the endearing qualities that make each one of you so special.  Thank you for making me laugh and care for all of you over these past 6 months.
