February 1, 2007 - By the time the
National Capital Volleyball Club's first-ever Absolutely Awesome
iPod Appeal fundraiser had wrapped up, more than 200 donors from
across Ottawa, Rockland, Gatineau, B.C., Toronto, Quebec and the U.S.
had participated. Supporting the CAPS were aunts, uncles,
mothers, fathers, brothers, sisters, Godparents, cousins,
grandparents, great grandparents, teachers, employers, co-workers,
local businesses and friends who all gave generously in support
of the CAPS and their goals of representing Ottawa in the Provincial
and National championships this spring.
What a club! The contest for top
fundraiser was neck-and-neck right to the end. The competition
was stiff and exciting, with the top spot continuously switching back
and forth from one player to another and from one team to the next.
Players, parents and team managers worked diligently and, at the
finish line, had raised over $7100 - just over our stated goal of $150
raised per player among the 4 teams participating!
But no-one raised quite as much as 17U
player Becky Billings, who was the top fundraiser in the club
and who won herself an Apple iPod Video for her trouble.
The other top fundraisers from each team were 18U player Laura
Carmanico, 16U player Marijke Miedema, and 15U player
Kristen Ritchie, each of whom won themselves an iPod
Nano.
The 18U team squeaked out a victory for the
$30-per-player trip to Garage by earning top spot in overall
team fundraising!
All donors' names were put into a draw
for a chance to win the grand prize of another iPod Video.
Congratulations to donor Reggie O'Doherty, our lucky
winner!
A huge thank you to each and every
one of our donors - you made it happen and your support is greatly
appreciated. Thanks also to the players and families who put in
the time to make this 1st ever club-wide NCVC fundraiser a success.
It should be remembered that 20% of all funds raised (after prizing
expenses) will go directly to the club's CAPSFund of
Excellence, supporting activities
above and beyond normal club operations aimed at nurturing and
supporting the pursuit of excellence and enhanced personal and
athletic achievement among our players and coaches. We
salute all your hard work!
Names of all our donors will be posted to
the Friends of The CAPS section of our site in the weeks to
come.
