December 16, 2006 - Thankfully the winter weather did not hamper our travel to Woodbridge, Ontario for our 2nd OVA tournament of the season, the OVA 19U Girls Open/Tier 1.  National Capitals 18U were pooled with 2 other teams, DRVC 18U and Toronto Royal Blues, to battle it out during round robin play.

The 18U CAPS ended round robin play first in their pool to advance to the medal rounds.
Quarter-final play would match the CAPS against DRVC 17U with a victory in 2 games: 25-21 and 25-20.

The semi-final round against Durham Attack was our toughest match of the day.  The first game was hard-fought and ended in a loss, 22-25.  CAPS rallied back in the second game to win 25-19 with great rallies.   Unfortunately, in the third and deciding game, the CAPS were unsuccessful at 13-15 and would, once again, play for bronze.

The final match against DRVC 18U for the bronze medal started with a strong finish and the CAPS winning the first set 25-11.  DRVC battled hard to take the second game, however the CAPS would be victorious at 25-21 in the third and take home another bronze medal.

One of our new additions to the CAPS Club, Véronique Beaudry, assumed full setting responsibilities for the tournament and showed her ability to lead her team to a bronze medal.  Great job Véro!

Thank you to our billeting families - Ken, Marg & Jared and Bob's Uncle Joe and Aunt Wendy - for a wonderfully relaxing morning.
