December 2, 2006 - We started off
the day with a short drive down the road to DeLaSalle High School in
Ottawa for the OVA 14U Girls McGregor Cup/Zone D. It was
great to see so many parents and relatives come out to cheer the girls
on. We had all three coaches on the bench, as well.
Our 9:00 a.m. match was against the
Ottawa Mavericks Gold Diggers. The girls looked a little
nervous to start the day and lost the first set 15-25. They then
started to settle in and won the 2nd set 25-15. In the 3rd set,
the CAPS ran into some serving difficulties and lost a close one
12-15. Our resident nurse/mom, Marlene Taylor, missed the 3rd
set due to an injury on the bench, resulting in a nosebleed.
Yes, Vicky is just fine.
Next up for the CAPS was the Ganaraska
Wolves. The girls came into the match with terrific serving
and won in straight sets, 25-12 and 25-16, proving that good serving
predicts a good outcome.
The 3rd match was against the Kingston
Cats. The girls played steady and controlled volleyball to
win in two straight games, 25-10 and 25-16, placing the CAPS 2nd in
their pool.
After a leisurely lunch, we were back on
the courts facing the Ottawa Kangaroos in the quarter-finals.
You could feel the intensity in the air. The score stayed close
the entire match with the CAPS pulling off a win, 25-22 and 26-24,
keeping the parents on the edge of their seats. It was great to
see the team working so well together.
So now it was on to the semis against
the Northumberland Breakers (the eventual champions).
This match was a nail-biter - staying close throughout the match -
only this time we came out on the losing side, 24-26 and 23-25.
This was our toughest loss of the day, as it could have gone either
way.
The girls regrouped after their
disappointing loss in the semis to play the Ganaraska Wolves
once again. The CAPS won in two straight sets, 25-16 and 25-14,
to take home the bronze medal.
Way to go CAPS!!!
Thanks to Rebecca, Linden and Mike for
spending the time coaching our girls.
