Tess Edwards earns ESPN academic honour
by University of Kentucky Media Department

November 14, 200 6 - From the UK Media Department:  The University of Kentucky sophomore volleyball player Tess Edwards has been named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District IV Second Team, as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (COSIDA).

Edwards is a communications major and has a perfect 4.0 grade point average at Kentucky where she has been a member of the Dean's List, the Athletic Director's Honor Roll and was a 2006 SEC Freshman Academic Honor Roll selection.

Edwards moved to the outside hitter position this season after playing the majority of her freshman campaign as a setter.  In her new role, Edwards has set new career-bests in nearly every offensive category.  She had a personal-best 11 kills in the Cats' win over Mississippi State and her five digs against the Bulldogs were also the best tally of her Wildcat career.  The Ottawa, Ontario, native has recorded a career-high eight blocks in two matches this season and notched three service aces in UK's win over Syracuse earlier this year.

Edwards has 120 kills this season for an average of 1.40 kills per game. She is third on the team with 77 total blocks (0.90 bpg), and has recorded eight services aces this season.  Edwards has 31 assists for an average of 0.36 per game and ranks sixth on the team with 169.5 points.
