November 11, 2006 - We started off the day with fine weather and a perfect drive down the 401 to Kingston, with one extremely packed van and a few cars. This year's 14U team has 9 new faces, some being newcomers to the sport of volleyball.  At the OVA 14U Girls Provincial Cup/Zone E, we had a day of learning court positioning and whose ball was whose.  This day would not be about winning, but about learning the ins and outs of playing club ball in the OVA.

We started off pool play against Durham Attack Red, losing the match in 2 sets.  With lines being shuffled around, we then played the Ganaraska Wolves and, with some terrific serving, we won our first match of the season, in 3 sets.  After some further shuffling around of the line-up, we played DRVC Blue, but lost that match, also in three sets.

After some great food and relaxation, we were ready to start the playoff round against the Ottawa Maverick Gold Diggers.  Although we lost the match in 2 sets, it seemed like our court positioning was starting to come around.  Coaches Rebecca and Linden did some final tweaking of the lineup before our final match of the day, against the Ottawa Kangaroos.  We went 3 grueling sets, with some fabulous serving in the 3rd helping us to win our final match of the day, placing the 14U girls 9th in the tournament.  Way to go CAPS!

Thanks to Rebecca and Linden for their great job behind the bench and thanks to all the parents who made their way to Kingston to cheer on the girls.  Next stop for the girls is in our own backyard, the 14U Girls McGregor Cup/Zone D at De La Salle High School in Ottawa on December 2nd.
