May 31st, 2006 - The National
Capitals Volleyball Club 'capped off' their second season on
Wednesday, May 31st with an awards banquet at Algonquin College.
With over 80 proud parents and supporters in attendance, players and
teams were honoured and celebrated by the club. More
importantly, the players took the opportunity to cherish what was so
special about the CAPS and the 2005-2006 season: close, often
life-long friendships, unbelievable memories, laughter, inspiration,
and respect for each other, the game and the support team that enabled
them to achieve.
And achieve they did! In addition to recognizing the many
provincial and national accomplishments of each of the teams, the club
also handed out its annual individual awards.

To commemorate their years with the CAPS,
two players, Kate Eckhardt and Melissa Zéroual were
presented with CareerCAPS awards, and welcomed to the
fraternity by the many alumni in attendance. A special tribute
was paid to Kate Eckhardt for her seven inspiring and decorated
years playing club ball.
Master of Ceremonies, Sylvie Bigras
kept the evening moving and the audience amused. Many were recognized
for their contributions - for the coaching, organizing, parenting,
driving, billeting, sponsoring, writing, photography and all that went
into creating the CAPS experience. Guest speaker Tess
Edwards relayed an inspiring message to players and all in
attendance - to treasure the club years and the people that make it
what them so special.
The evening ended with a special year-end
multi-media presentation prepared by Susan Wolfenden, an
amazing yearbook created by Paul Edwards, and DVDs of all the
year's photographs, a working version of the 2005-2006 website, and
a PDF version of the 2005-2006yearbook. Books were signed, a few
tears were shed, some summer goodbyes and hugs were shared, and
pledges were given to do it all over again... in YEAR
THREE!
