November 19, 2005 -  "Hello Julie? Yeah, we're still at the Volleyball Quebec 15U/16U Omnium in Vaudreuil ... just thought I'd call and give you the day's update before my cell battery runs out ..."

"The girls' first match was against Libellules cadettes, a spirited, aggressive and really quick team ... Set 1 seemed all about serving - their hard serves giving us trouble passing and our serves going out ... Marijke had a monster solo block in the middle against their biggest hitter, so that gave the girls some inspiration, but unfortunately they lost that one ... Then Coach Cathy tried another lineup and they really played well together ...  A great dig by Lauren to Rebecca for a kill in the middle got them revved up, Libellules seemed to fall apart, and they split that first match 14-25, 25-20 ..."

"Second match was against Celtique blanches ... Kathleen put on a serving clinic - serving 13 straight points in the first set and 9 in the second as the CAPS won 25-4, 25-14 ..."

"Chris sped up from Ottawa and arrived just in time for the girls' third opponent of the day, the host team, Mistral - and man, did Jorie  and Brittany ever pound the ball outside! ... Your Leah and Isabelle served strong in the second set as well ...  We really had momentum going for us, even when things were slowed down for an eternity by rotation and reffing issues on the other side, but our girls kept their focus and took the match 25-16, 25-14 ... That tied us with Libellules for first in pool, but after the tie-breaker, we were second ..."

"The girls had the most amazing lunch breaks as well ... Papa Moose (Mark Spas) brought his frying pan and treated the girls to mini-quiche and chicken nuggets, along with an amazing spread from the other parents ... Then we all went to cheer on the 16U team who is also here, playing in the 16U tournament ... Some of the girls, of course, had to check out the boys gym as well ..."

"Next up were the semis against Cyclones, who hadn't lost a set all day in the other pool ... They were a hard hitting team, but we came out focussed and ready to play ... Laura set the tone with a great kill in the middle and, when their strongest server started to give us some trouble, she came through with one of those ever-deceptive 'attack bumps' all the girls do from time-to-time ... Always catches them flat-footed ... Again, the hitting and blocking were pretty exciting to watch - our strong serves never allowed Cyclones to get their offense going ... So the CAPS took the match 25-16, 25-17, and moved through to the gold medal match ... The girls were pretty excited about that, as it was a rematch with Libellules ..."

"The final was really exciting, quality ball, with both sides hustling for every point ... Lauren kept the team calm with her setting and digging ... Adrianna hit and served well, but when the first set finished, we had lost a squeaker, 24-26 ... The second see-sawed up to 13s, but then we had a little trouble passing (and volleying) their serves, falling behind 13-17 ... They seemed to have our number at 18-22, but then the momentum shifted to the CAPS, as the girls fought for every point and were really hitting well ... Brittany showed her team spirit - a little too enthusiastically - by running into the huddle after a great play, hopping up and twisting her ankle ... Leah subbed in and served great, but then Libellules ended our comeback abruptly at 22-25 ..."

"It was a fun day though, with lots of spectators cheering on the girls - Kathleen's uncle from Nova Scotia, Lauren's grandparents and sister, Adrianna's brother, on top of the regular parental contingent - and, of course, the 16U girls ... I know the girls are very thankful to have such great supporters ..."

"So now we're waiting for the medal presentation to get the silver ... What??? Let me tell the girls ... HEY GIRLS, the 14Us won gold at their first tournament!  Woo-hoo! ..."

"So Julie, are you heading out to see the the 15Us'next tournament in Cambridge on December 3rd - the OVA 16U McGregor Cup - Tier 1? ... Great ... See you then ... My battery is dying and the medal presentations are finally starting ... Talk to you later ... Bye."
