2006 Ontario Summer Games - Call for Volunteers (PHOTOS)
by Bob O'Doherty

July 6, 2006 - The 2006 Ontario Summer Games will be held in Ottawa from Wednesday, August 9 to Saturday, August 12.  The volleyball competition in the Games will consist of both beach and indoor volleyball.  The female and male beach volleyball competitions will be for the 18U age category (athletes born in 1988 or later) and be staged at Mooney's Bay Beach in Mooney's Bay Park.  The female and male indoor volleyball competitions will be staged as part of the 16U Athlete Development Program (athletes born in 1990 or later) and be staged at Montpetit Hall at the University of Ottawa.

Region 6 will be represented by two female and three male teams (2 player teams) in the beach volleyball competition.  As well, Region 6 will also have one female and one male team (10 player teams) in the indoor volleyball competition.

Although the athletes for the Region 6 teams have already been selected, there are lots of other opportunities for the Region 6 volleyball community to get involved.  In this regard, I am asking all Region 6 clubs to circulate this call for volunteers to support the staging of the above-noted volleyball competitions.

If anyone is interested in volunteering, please go to the Games website at
www.2006ontariosummergames.ca and follow the online Volunteer Application process.  When you fill out your application, clearly indicate the days/times that you are available to volunteer and whether or not you would prefer to volunteer at the beach volleyball or indoor volleyball venues or both.  Also, please indicate if you are part of a bigger group that is volunteering (e.g. your club).

We would like to have each Region 6 club contribute to the volunteer requirements for the volleyball competitions in some manner, so that we can put on a first-class event for all the volleyball participants coming to Ottawa in August.

Thank you for your support!
