First CAPSClinic held at
Holy Trinity (PHOTOS)
By Paul Edwards
The CAPS 18U girls team's Alex, Tess, Heather, Ashley and Jess, along with Coaches Cathy O'Doherty and Newton Noor, conducted the first of what we hope will be many
CAPSClinics after school on Monday, October 25th at Holy Trinity Catholic High School in Kanata. The free hour-and-a-half session gave the
opportunity for the girls to impart some of their impressive skills to these young grade 7 and 8 students. The session consisted of individual skills training in
small groups, demonstrations of passing, volleying, tipping and serving skills, and 'wash' drills involving both the CAPS and their young 'students', where the first
team to 3 avoided a little bonus 'exercise'!
Great fun was had by all, especially by the 18Us who got a real kick out of helping the Trinity girls with elements of their game. "It really seems to have made
a difference," said Tess Edwards, "they seemed to have improved already in just that quick workout." Trinity Head Coach Alain Dubé seemed pleased with the
results, "I know that at one time your girls were just learning like our juniors - it's encouraging to see how far they can go. If this is one more thing that
helps keep them in the sport of volleyball, then I'll be happy."
The afternoon ended with a quick exchange of club and school souvenirs and a wish that maybe they could do this again sometime soon. The 18U girls were right
back at it, holding their next clinic the following day at Frank Ryan School on Chesterton Drive in Nepean.
Should you wish to have the girls teach some of their skills to members of your school girls or boys volleyball team, please contact Coach Cathy O'Doherty at cathy.odoherty@rogers.com to book a date and time for your session.
