The National Capitals Volleyball Club (NCVC) will celebrate its inaugural season in 2004-05. The NCVC was founded in June 2004 in response to the demand for a competitive-level volleyball club that would use the principle of the pursuit and achievement of excellence to facilitate the growth and development of youth volleyball in the Ottawa area.

The NCVC will achieve these goals by providing the resources required for elite player development primarily in the areas of coaching, volunteer leadership and competitive opportunities. While still an emerging club, the NCVC has already attracted many of the top volleyball coaches in the Ottawa area, while putting into place a strong and experienced volunteer infrastructure to provide leadership for, and to manage, its programs and teams.

The NCVC will be a member club of the Ontario Volleyball Association (OVA) for the 2004-05 volleyball season. As such, all NCVC players and coaches will be registered with the OVA for the period ending August 31, 2005. In doing so, they are eligible to participate in regional/provincial/national training camps and elite centres, on regional/provincial/national teams, compete in OVA and Volleyball Canada sanctioned tournaments (including Provincial and National Championships), receive related insurance coverage and are governed by applicable OVA policies and procedures.

The NCVC's competitive program for the 2004-05 indoor volleyball season will be comprised of the following age categories, for girls only:

18 & Under (born in 1987 or later)
16 & Under (born in 1989 or later)
15 & Under (born in 1990 or later)
14 & Under (born in 1991 or later)

The NCVC will field a minimum of one team in each of the above-noted age categories for the 2004-05 indoor volleyball season, which kicks off with tryouts on September 11-12, 2004. The eight month indoor volleyball season will end in mid-May 2005 with the National Championships. Teams will practice two to three times per week, with each practice being two hours in length. Teams will compete in a minimum of nine tournaments during the indoor volleyball season, including the Provincial and National Championships in their age category, most of them outside the Ottawa area. Tournaments are either a one or two day format, except for the National Championships which take place over a period of three days.

In addition to its competitive program, the NCVC is also planning to deliver Capitals Volleyball Clinics and Mini-Volleyball programs to the Ottawa area in its first year of operations. More information about these programs will be posted to the NCVC web site as they are finalized.

Full details of the NCVC's Mission, Vision and Values statements, and its inaugural Board of Directors can be accessed above, under "THE NCVC".
