Cathy O'Doherty
Head Coach/16U girls and 15U girls (Email Cathy)
Cathy has been involved in competitive sport for over 30 years. She competed in volleyball at Queen's University where she was named to the Junior National "B"
team. In her graduating year, Cathy was given the Phys. Ed. '55 Alumnae Award for top athletic and academic achievements. After graduating from Queen's with Phys. Ed., Math
and Education degrees, she moved to Winnipeg and won a Senior National Championship with Prairie Blue Volleyball Club. Cathy also became an accomplished tennis player, winning
several provincial championships in Manitoba.
Cathy has taught high school for 25 years. In that time, she has coached volleyball, tennis, track and field, badminton, basketball and touch football. Cathy has coached
several high school teams to NCSSAA championships and consequently participated in a number of OFSSAA championships. She has also been involved in community sports, coaching
soccer when her daughters were young. When Meghan and Erin reached the age to play competitve volleyball, Cathy volunteered to coach at the club level. She obtained her Level
1 NCCP coaching qualifications and in 2003, her team won the Midget girls Provincial and Eastern Canadian Championships. In 2004, Cathy coached the 15U and 18U girls teams.
The 15U girls won the Provincial and Eastern Canadian Championships. The 18U team won a provincial silver medal, as well as a bronze medal at the Martin Luther King Classic in
Philadelphia. In March 2003, Cathy received the Mike Bugarski Award given by the OVA to the Female Coach of the Year.
Cathy played volleyball in the OCVL from 1990-2003, until an injury stopped her from participating. Cathy continues to coach at the high school level and volunteers her time
to coach at Olympia Sports Camp in Huntsville, Ontario.

Matt Harris
Head Coach/18U girls, Assistant Coach/15U girls
Matt graduated from Glebe High School where he played and coached through his high school years. After graduation, Matt played for Algonquin College, where he
was named captain of the team for two years. Since 1999, Matt has coached a variety of teams participating in the OVA, both as an assistant and head coach. In 2003, Matt won a
Provincial and Eastern Canadian Championship in the midget girls division.
Matt has dedicated countless hours to the development of volleyball in the Ottawa area. He is a level 2 coach who gives his time to coach at Madawaska and Olympia Sports Camp.
He was the head coach of the Region 6 teams at the Ontario Summer Games in both 2000 and 2002. Just recently Matt was named Assistant Coach of the Men's Provincial Team, where
he will be participating in many provincial programs this summer as the team prepares for the Canada Summer Games in 2005.
Matt's love of sport and interest in the welfare of children is evident in his daily activities. He is the Program Director at the YMCA in Ottawa. Matt also plays beach and
indoor volleyball, as well as hockey on a regular basis.

Diana Dowthwaite
Head Coach/14U girls
Diana has been involved in competitive volleyball for over 30 years. She moved through the Nova Scotia volleyball program, participating at both the club and
provincial team levels. As part of the provincial All Star team, she travelled to England to represent Nova Scotia at an international tournament. She was a member of her
high school provincial championship team and continued to play at Dalhousie University where she was a member of the 1981 CIAU National Championship team. She later coached
high school for two years before moving to Ottawa.
Diana plays in the OCVL Women's League and has competed at several national Masters-level championships.
Diana has her level 1 NCCP qualification in volleyball and soccer and has coached both sports. She coached volleyball at the 14U age level for the past two
years, leading her team to three gold and 2 bronze medal performances en route to a 6th place Tier 1 OVA finish in 2003-04.
Diana works in a senior administrative position with the Government of Canada. She enjoys playing volleyball, soccer and kickboxing.

Paulette Cournoyer-Peski
Assistant Coach/14U girls
Paulette joins the National Capitals with over 24 years of volleyball experience. She plays in the OCVL Women¹s and Mixed competitive divisions, as well as
league and tournament play in beach volleyball. Paulette has her Level 1 NCCP qualification and has been a high school and OVA club coach for the past two years. In the
2002-2003 season, Paulette coached an elite Bantam girls team, winning one bronze, three silver and two gold medals in both invitational and OVA tournament play.
Paulette has been employed at the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board for the last 17 years as an Information Technology Support Staff Member. She enjoys running,
volleyball, basketball, swimming and spending time with family and friends.

Jennifer Wheeler
Jen Wheeler played with the Forest City Volleyball Club in London from 1991-1997. She attended the University of Western Ontario, winning two provincial
championships and a national placing. Jen was awarded the MVP in 2001. She has played many positions, including setter, outside hitter, defensive specialist and libero. After
graduation, Jen played club ball in the OVA and participated in the National Championships.
As a coach, Jen has many experiences in a short time frame. She ran the mini-league for Forest City in 1995-96, as well as many clinics and programs at the University of
Western Ontario. Jen was the assistant coach for the Summer Games team in 1996. After moving to Ottawa, Jen immediately became involved in coaching. She was both an assistant
and head coach of a girls juvenile club team in the city. She developed a house league program for younger players that ran from 2002-04. Most recently Jen was the Assistant
Coach of the University of Ottawa GeeGees Women's team.
Jen has her full level 1 NCCP qualifications and her level 2 theory. She is extremely interested in promoting the sport of volleyball in the Ottawa area, especially for
younger players. She has her quaifications in mini-volleyball. Jen is an elementary school teacher with the Ottawa Carleton District School Board. She enjoys many sports,
including beach and indoor volleyball, running (she participated in the half marathon in 2002) and camping.

Shawna Burton
Shawna began her volleyball career in the Sudbury area, playing club ball in the OVA from 1991-93 and 1995-96. She represented Region 2 from 1991-93, where she
was the captain in her last year. Shawna was a member of the Cambrian College Varsity team for three years ('96-99) and captain of the team for two years. At the Ontario
College Championships in 1997, she won a bronze medal.
Shawna has her Level 1 NCCP qualifications. During the summers of 1997, '98 and '99, Shawna coached the NEO Region 2 men's team. In 1999, this team won a bronze medal at the
regional games. For the past two years, she has been an assistant coach for an OVA club team at the midget and juvenile girls level. In 2004, Shawna coached her 18U girls team
to a silver medal at the provincial championships.
Shawna is a Network Specialist with the RCMP. Shawna continues to actively participate in volleyball, competing in the OCVL women's and coed divisions. She also competes in
beach volleyball and softball.
